Came for Halloween on the second weekend, heard it was great and wasn't disapointed. The kids had a great time dressing up for the costume contest and trick or treating. Some of the other campers really get into the weekend. Looks like the place gets real busy during the summer. I think this is the most stuff I have seen in a campground. We are coming back this summer, made reservations when we left.
Great Time for all!
Multiple swimming pools for children of all ages. Playgrounds for smaller children. Putt Putt golf and paddle boats are part of great time. Beautiful sunsets. 4 fishing piers. This is a great campground for anyone who likes being close to the water. Bring your own boat or rent one.
Great Water Access
It was Labor Day, so it was crowded, but that's to be expected. Great pool facilities, lots of pier space and beach. Good activities that the kids enjoyed. Our site was on the small side, but it was a great weekend!
We camped here in July. Since we arrived at almost 10 pm, we used the express check-in. All of our documents were waiting for us at the Rangers station, which was very convenient. We had a shaded site that had a lot of tall trees, but really no shrubbery between sites. (Beware, the water view sites have NO shade and the Eastern Shore of Virginia in July is HOT!) Since we have a small camper, the site we got was one of their smaller ones, but it was large enough for our comfort. The only slight problem we had was trying to figure out which connections were ours, and which were our neighbors. It wasn’t clearly marked, but it all worked out fine. The bathhouse we used was dated, but clean and air conditioned.
Unfortunately, we weren’t staying long, but we definitely enjoyed our stay while we were there. The campground has a little cafĂ©, where we did eat a tasty breakfast. We also bought vegetables from their fresh farm stand. The general store was nicely stocked with most of the essentials and lots of souvenirs. We saw the pools and mini golf, but never got a chance to enjoy them because we decided to spend our time crabbing from the four different piers. What fun!! This was my first time crabbing and we had a blast! After buying some supplies at the bait and tackle shop on site, we caught a few crabs that were big enough to keep and we cooked them to have with our dinner. We had so much fun crabbing, that we did it again the next morning before we checked out.
Cherrystone offers boat rentals; kayak, canoe and small motor boats. They have pedal boats, but the pond they are in is really small. Registered campers are also allowed to bring their own boats. Golf cart rentals are also available. For those who don’t have their own camping gear, Cherrystone offers cottage, cabin and trailer rentals. We had a great time here. The only real disappointment was that we didn’t stay long enough. We are planning to go back and stay longer so we can enjoy more of the activities.
